Wondering why your or somebody else's activity status is perpetually appearing as 'Active Now' beneath your profile picture, even if you're not? Here's why - and how to prevent it from happening.

Background Activity

If the Instagram app is still running in the background of your device - or if your device settings allow Instagram to refresh in the background - your activity status might show you as online.

If you notice other users are constantly online but not responding to Instagram direct messages and Story replies, this could be why.

You're Logged In On Multiple Devices

If you've closed the Instagram app on one device but it's still showing you as active on Instagram, it might be because you're logged in on another device - either a computer or tablet.

View Your Logged In Devices

You can see a list of the devices you're logged into by following the steps below:

Tap the three lines on the top right corner.

Tap Accounts Center > Password & Security

Tap Where you're logged in.

On the next screen you will see a list of all the devices you're currently active on. Tap the device of your choice and select Log Out.

You're Logged In On A Linked Account

If you use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger and have an online status on one of those apps, you might appear as active with a green dot on Instagram.

Try turning off your online status on both Messenger or WhatsApp to see if it resolves the issue on Instagram.

Slow Internet Or Device

If you have network issues or a sluggish device, there may be delays in updating how you show activity status on Instagram.
