Why You Should Start Using Reddit To Increase Brand Awareness
|
June 18th, 2021 by Terri Pinyerd

Reddit is the self-proclaimed “front page of the internet” and it doesn’t fall short of that claim. Reddit is the go-to source for honest opinions, reviews, advice, and - of course - catchy content.

Whether you’re an individual on the path to becoming an influencer, or you’re focusing on building a professional brand for your business, Reddit can help you to increase brand awareness and build a more sincere, loyal audience than any other social media platform out there.

All it takes is a little bit of time, effort, and, of course, a few tips and tricks from our team! So let’s get started…

Why you should start using Reddit to increase brand awareness

Getting To Know Reddit

If you’re new to Reddit it can seem overwhelming. With so many subreddits to explore, a newsfeed full of catchy content that updates minute by minute, and new rules to learn with every new community, it can be a lot to take in. Let’s start with the basics.

The homepage of Reddit is where you’ll see an aggregate of content pulled from the most popular subreddits of the day. Usually you’ll find a mixture of memes, breaking news, and other trending content.

From your homepage you can then delve into subreddits. These are micro communities that focus on a particular niche. Subreddits are denoted with an r/ before the subreddit title. The great thing about subreddits is that you can explore your interests without having to commit. There’s no need to join a subreddit officially if you just want to browse the content.

Then you have your profile, where you - and visitors to your profile -  can view your most recent activity.

Building A Strong Reddit Profile

Your Reddit profile consists of your username, avatar, bio, and activity. Activity includes any statuses as moderator, awards, and subreddits you subscribe to. On your profile feed users can view your most recent comments and posts to learn more about your interests.

If you’re creating a Reddit profile to increase brand awareness, aim to be as human and personable as possible while still upholding your brand values. This means including your logo or brand colors, and tying in your brand slogan with your bio if it can be done naturally.

Aim to post a mixture of brand-related content and content that you yourself are interested in. This will increase your chances of building up a strong following organically.

Be sure to comment as often as possible too, as it will help to increase your brand reach. The more value you can provide to someone, whether it be through content, freebies, or advice, the more your audience will come to trust and value your brand presence.

Learning The Ropes

Each subreddit has its own unique set of rules. Be sure to read these thoroughly before making any posts or commenting on any content. This will ensure that you aren’t penalized for accidentally flouting the rules, or creating any inadvertent drama. Once you’ve familiarized yourself with the rules, it’s time to get started posting!

You can start small by commenting on posts within your preferred subreddit, or you can start creating posts of your own within an already established subreddit. If you want to go bold, you can even create your own subreddit dedicated to a brand-related topic!

For example, if your brand focuses on health and wellness, a subreddit dedicated to healthy eating or fitness is a great place to start. Find what sets you apart from the existing subreddits and build off of that.

The more unique your content is, the more likely you are to reach the front page of Reddit which, by extension, is of course the “front page of the internet”!

Building Brand Awareness

With a strong profile, awesome content, and potentially your own subreddit to help get things started, it’s time to build brand awareness! But be mindful not to just advertise your products or services unsolicited. This is a sure way to get banned or ignored. Aim to create a more personable relationship with your fellow Redditors. Start by providing friendly advice, and if the conversation flows naturally feel free to drop your brand name or website address. You can also share your social media profiles for anyone you feel may be interested in following up on your daily content.

The key is to be sincere, and focus on building relationships and not just on building numbers. The more honest and down to earth you are, the more likely you are to build a lasting community of customers.

Where To Go From Here

Now that you’ve mastered the ins and outs of Reddit, be sure to check in on your performance regularly and make adjustments as needed. The more your brand grows, the more opportunities you’ll have to change the way you relate to your audience.
